Cheryl Puntil, RN, BS, MN
Biography

    Cheryl Puntil is a clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric mental health nursing and practices at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital. Her work is complicated in that she manages the nursing care of complicated psychiatric and medical patients. She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing at St. Teresa and received her training at the world famous Mayo Clinic. Cheryl received her master of nursing degree at UCLA, is listed in the 1990 edition of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, and had an extensive training internship at the Senior Health and Peer Counseling Center. Cheryl is certified in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute in Beverly Hills.

    Cheryl has seventeen years experience in psychiatric mental health nursing, fifteen of those in geriatric psychiatry. She specializes in assessing mental status, group psychotherapy, family systems and psychodynamic psychotherapy with the elderly. Cheryl has been interested in destigmatizing ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) and has worked hard at educating professionals and the public about the therapy’s effective treatment of psychiatric disorders, especially depression.

    Cheryl published a paper on "Resistance" and has written an educational pamphlet on ECT. She spoke in North Carolina at the first National Nursing ECT Conference and recently at the Neuropsychiatric Institute’s ECT Department’s open house. She is a volunteer speaker for the Alzheimer’s Association and believes in the prevention of illness, being pro-active, and becoming educated, to maintain one’s mental health.
